Frequently asked questions

What size projects can you work on?

We have no minimum project size requirements, and some of our projects only require a few resources, but we are also able to accomodate large projects that require dozens of resources. We also provide Fractional CTO and other augmentation services, which may only involve a single New York App Lab resource.

How do I get my project started?

Engaging us on your project is easy! Simply visit our Contact Us page and tell us a little bit about your company and your project. You don't have to write a book - just send us your contact information and we will respond quickly to schedule a call. We know that you're busy - if you prefer to initially communicate with a few back and forth emails before we schedule a chat, that's also perfectly fine. We'll move at whatever pace you feel comfortable with.

What technologies do you use?

We will make infrastructure and tech stack recommendations based on your project requirements and based on your existing technical resources and landscape. If you have specific technologies that you prefer on a project, our team is experienced with a wide range of platforms and technologies and is happy to accomodate your preferences. Based on our personal experiences, there are some platforms and technologies that we prefer (see the "Technologies That We Love" section of our home page), but we are agnostic in a technical sense - prefering to choose the right tool for the job rather than forcing a technology that may not be the best solution. Our services page has more detail about the services and technologies that we use.

Why and how are your rates so low?

Our founders have a background working in mission driven non-profit organizations, and they started New York App Lab with a mission of their own: to charge fair prices for high-quality technical services. We have a network of like-minded technical friends and colleagues, both on and off-shore, which we blend to keep our design and engineering rates more reasonable. Our founders, who are based in Brooklyn, NY, are always your primary point of contact and oversee project management and technical execution. You can learn more about our founders and our mission on our about us page, and there is more information about our pricing on our pricing page.

Do you offer non-profit pricing?

We don't offer non-profit pricing per se, because our mission is to execute every project at lower than industry-standard rates, regardless of what industry our customer is in. That said, we recognize that not all non-profit budgets are made equal, and true to our mission objective of making software services equitable, we will do everything within reason to meet your budgetary constraints without sacrificing requirements (and no, we NEVER sacrifice quality).

What types of projects do you do?

We have experience with a wide range of projects. These include website re-design, IoT and embedded tech, developing and deploying content management systems and CRMs, infrastructure design, big data architecture, system automation, platform & data migrations and integrations, data design and optimization, digital marketing, data analytics, A.I. operations, data management platform engineering, e-commerce applications, and other web, mobile, and desktop applications. We also provide mentoring/training, code & architecture review, data governance and data security, Fractional CTO, technical strategy development, and other services. See our services page for more information about our services.

The range of industries we've worked in is also very diverse. Our customer industries have included heavily regulated environments like medical/health and financial services, legal services, member associations, B2B and B2C e-commerce, local/state/federal government, streaming and print media, mission driven non-profits, and educational institutions to name just a few.
